I have been thinking of starting a home based business for some time. In the past I have looked into a number of different ideas, like selling weight loss systems, real estate investing, eBay, FOREX trading, etc. Each of these different areas seemed to be either somewhat risky, or didn’t deliver the kind of results that they were touting.

In my current corporate job, I work from home and am fairly proficient using my computer. As I looked at my skills and matched them to different home based business ideas I quickly realized that the best way of starting a home based business, is through online marketing. Online marketing is sort of fun! There are a lot of different programs you can join at a very low cost, that will help you get started marketing a product online. What’s really fun about it is that you are in control. You can control the products you sell, your web site design, the time you spend, and the products you market. You can also create your own products and then sell those products online.

Starting a home based business can also be overwhelming if you aren’t careful. There are some scams out there, and everyone and their brother is trying to sell you stuff once you get on the track. However, there are some excellent free e-books and free information on how to get started. You don’t have to spend a bundle when compared to the amount you would need to spend if you were starting some retail business or some franchise.
